"Multiple intelligences" theorist Howard Gardner on digital media, learning, and empathy

On February 11, Dr. Howard Gardner, best known for his theory of multiple intelligences, engaged in a public conversation on the art science of 21st-century education with Dr. Mary Helen Immordino-Yang, an award-winning behavioral and social scientist and faculty member at the University of Southern California.

Gardner and  Immordino-Yang discussed empathy and critical thinking as as learning skills that are becoming ever more important as global society grows and information becomes more accessible. How should scientific researchers translate their work for teachers and learners?  How can educators promote the ethical advancement of society through critically examining uses of information?

The discussion was organized by USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education and co-sponsored by the USC Rossier School of Education, the USC School of Cinematic Arts Institute for Multimedia Literacy, the USC David and Dana Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, the USC Center for Excellence in Teaching, the USC Levan Institute for Humanities and Ethics, the USC Center for Scholarly Technology, and the USC Brain and Creativity Institute.
