USC Shoah Foundation Attending World Refugee Day Los Angeles

USC Shoah Foundation will staff a table at this year’s World Refugee Day in Los Angeles. The event will be held Thursday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Plummer Park in West Hollywood.

World Refugee Day is observed annually on June 20. It is dedicated to raising awareness for the challenges facing refugees around the world. The Office of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates there are currently over 50 million refugees around the world and half of them are women and children.

The Refugee Forum of Los Angeles is hosting World Refugee Day – Los Angeles 2015, an afternoon of cultural performances, children’s activities and an information fair at Plummer Park (1200 N. Vista St.) in West Hollywood. This year’s event is centered on the themes of Syria, unaccompanied refugee minors, and the centennial anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Free and open to the public, the event will provide information about immigration, family reunification, citizenship, benefits, employment and more. Representatives from the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services will also be in attendance.

Staff from USC Shoah Foundation will operate an information table about the Institute, its mission and its educational and research programs. Attendees are welcome to stop by to find out more about USC Shoah Foundation’s new Armenian Genocide Collection (which launched in April during the Armenian Genocide centennial anniversary), Center for Advanced Genocide Research, educational programs including IWitness, and other activities.
