IWitness Has Most Successful Month Ever
IWitness celebrated a milestone in March: the most registrations ever in a single month.
While the month of February brought a record number of 4,022 students and 385 educators registering to the IWitness site, the month of March saw an even higher increase in student registrations at a total of 4,425.
A record number of 4,022 students and 385 educators registered to the IWitness site in March 2016.
Over the past quarter (January, February and March), there were 74,455 total visits to IWitness and 8,243 total downloads of its resources.
The milestone comes at a busy time for IWitness. The IWitness Video Challenge is in full swing with the submission deadline approaching on May 13, 2016. The challenge, which will award $10,000 in prizes overall, invites students from all over North America to be inspired by the voices in IWitness, to use their innovation to create positive value in their communities, and to submit short videos explaining the inspiration behind their extraordinary actions and impact. Students are instructed on how to use the video editor built into IWitness to construct, edit, and submit their one- to four-minute video projects.
IWitness also just announced a series of activities geared toward Rwandan students that will be published throughout April.
Next Wednesday, April 13, the twice-monthly #IWitnessChat will focus on teaching the Armenian Genocide. It will be moderated by Facing History and Ourselves at @facinghistory at 4 p.m. PST. IWitness has 12 full testimonies of Armenian Genocide survivors and witnesses from the Visual History Archive, as well as curated clips from those testimonies on topics including Deportations, Memory and Genocide Denial.
On April 19, Facing History and Ourselves will host a free professional development webinar, led by USC Shoah Foundation staff, about strategies and resources for teaching the Armenian Genocide.
