Yad Vashem to Honor Branko Lustig and Hollywood Reporter in Los Angeles

The American Society for Yad Vashem will honor Holocaust survivors in Hollywood at its annual gala in Los Angeles June 6, inspired by The Hollywood Reporter’s landmark story “Hollywood’s Last Survivors.”

American Society for Yad Vashem and The Jewish Life Foundation have named their third annual benefit gala “A Salute to Hollywood.” It will be held June 6, 2016, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Holocaust survivors and producers Branko Lustig and Meyer Gottlieb will receive the evening’s Legacy Award, Entertainment Group President/COO Janice Min and EVP/Group Publisher Lynne Segall, on behalf of The Hollywood Reporter, will receive the Vanguard Award, and real estate developer and philanthropist David Wiener will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ron Meier, Executive Director of the American Society for Yad Vashem, said in a press release that the gala was inspired by The Hollywood Reporter’s December 2015 story “Hollywood’s Last Survivors,” which profiled 11 Holocaust survivors who went on to illustrious careers in Hollywood, including Lustig, producer of Schindler’s List, actor Robert Clary and dancer Ruth Posner. The Hollywood Reporter worked closely with USC Shoah Foundation to research the survivors, and Institute staff and founder Steven Spielberg were also interviewed for the story.
