Plukka and Joan Hornig Jewelers Host Fundraiser for USC Shoah Foundation Through Thursday, July 7

After a unique and inspiring fundraiser for USC Shoah Foundation in New York City last week, two jewelry designers are extending a special sale to benefit USC Shoah Foundation through Thursday, July 7.

PR consultant Susan Shin and jewelry designer and philanthropist Joan Hornig hosted a jewelry sale for over 50 guests at her home in Manhattan on June 27, with all the proceeds going to USC Shoah Foundation.

Hornig’s collection Philanthropy is Beautiful donates 100 percent of sales to charity.

The jewelry company Plukka, for which Hornig is a designer, partnered with Hornig for the event. Plukka has extended the benefit sale through Thursday on its website. Shoppers can enter code “Shoah” and Plukka will donate 15 percent of their purchase to USC Shoah Foundation for any item on the website, and Plukka will donate 100 percent of all sales of Joan Hornig pieces to USC Shoah Foundation.

Hornig said she learned about USC Shoah Foundation through its Board of Councilors member Cecilia Chan and was happy to make USC Shoah Foundation the next charity of choice for her Philanthropy is Beautiful collection.

At the event at her home, Hornig said the guests engaged in a long conversation about USC Shoah Foundation and why its mission is so important. They talked about fighting anti-Semitism, not being innocent bystanders, how the next generation continues to be affected by the Holocaust, and how the technology of the Visual History Archive allows the testimonies to be fully searchable and accessible.

“The guests were from all different backgrounds, and it showed them that the Holocaust is not just a Jewish problem,” Hornig said. “We must continue to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
