New Dimensions in Testimony Presentation in Aspen July 19
Smith’s presentation, “Holocaust and Holograms: Memory and Education in the Digital Age,” is free and open to the public. The talk will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a reception.
At the presentation, Smith will discuss New Dimensions in Testimony, USC Shoah Foundation’s project that uses groundbreaking natural language software that allows audiences to interact with the recorded image of a Holocaust survivor, who responds in real time, powered by complex algorithms providing realistic conversation. It was launched with the technological expertise from the USC Institute for Creative Technology.
The first interview, with survivor Pinchas Gutter, made its international debut in June at the Sheffield Documentary Film Festival in England, where it won the audience and jury prizes in the festival’s Alternate Realities Interactive category.
It is currently being exhibited at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington, D.C. until Labor Day.
Attendees at the Aspen event will have the opportunity to see the Pinchas interview and ask questions of their own.
