USC Shoah Foundation – the Institute for Visual History and Education (the Institute) announces a special education outreach effort to mark the theatrical release of the acclaimed documentary film No Place on Earth, a film directed by Janet Tobias, which chronicles the experiences of 38 men, women and children who survived the Holocaust in Ukraine by hiding in natural cave systems for 511 consecutive days, living underground longer than any human had ever done before.

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM), in cooperation with USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education, hosted the 12th Southern California Teacher Forum on Holocaust Education, “Teaching about the Holocaust,” at the University of Southern California. Approximately 90 educators from the greater Los Angeles area attended the three-day program.

Street’s talk, “Learning to Use Holocaust Survivor Testimony in the Classroom,” will address the program’s value in teaching eyewitness history, as well as its ability to help build digital literacy. When the Institute sent teams around the world to gather video testimony from survivors and eyewitnesses of the Holocaust, more than 2,500 Australians came forward. Nearly 20 years later, the Institute is once again in Australia; this time, the focus is on students.
